Sponsor boost for Lizzie’s tennis hopes
14th September 2011
Winning prospects for junior tennis player Lizzie Allwood have gained a major boost with sponsorship for training at a prestigious Leicestershire academy.
Leading Leicester commercial property specialist Andrew and Ashwell has stepped in to sponsor Lizzie for a year’s full-time coaching and study at Loughborough University-based MyTennis.
Eleven year-old Lizzie won the Under 12’s Singles and Under 12’s Doubles at the recent Leicestershire Junior County Closed Championship 2011. This was Lizzie’s first year of competing at Under 12 level, having won the Leicestershire Junior County Closed Under 10’s Singles title during August 2010. Lizzie also won the Under 11’s Mark Wormleighton Trophy last September.
Lizzie started competing in April 2009 and most of her early tennis was at David Lloyd, Narborough. She has also represented Leicestershire in County based team events at both Under 10 and Under 12 levels.
Having joined the MyTennis programme at Loughborough approximately 12 months ago, with afternoon day release from school, she has this week started the full-time course, combining the academy’s international full-time training programme with high quality academic education.
The MyTennis programme is one of only four LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) International High Performance Centre schemes in the UK. The academy is recognised by the tennis governing body as providing an elite training environment for ambitious youngsters, producing professional tennis players.
Lizzie says she would love to progress in tennis to a high level. She appreciates both the talent and toughness of the competition and is determined to give her best.
Jon Archer, Director at Andrew and Ashwell is delighted to be able to help Lizzie develop her budding career.
“From a young age Lizzie has shown she has the talent and tenacity to succeed. Sport is an essential lynchpin of education and we know that Lizzie is dedicated to succeeding at everything she does. We wish her all the best at MyTennis and hope to see her at Wimbledon in the not too distant future.”
